It’s good to have you here! Greetings from Bengal Business Network: bengalbusiness.net

A Brief Introduction to BIMSTEC

The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Technology & Economy.

BIMSTEC: The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation includes Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. The “BIMSTEC Economic Region” can bring a large and interconnected economy of over 1.5 billion people, i.e., about 21% of the world population who are young, and a combined regional GDP of over US$ 2.5 trillion, as on 2022.

Let’s not forget that:

Thailand & Indonesia are also India’s immediate neighbors; both countries share maritime borders with India — the pivot of the BIMSTEC Economic Region.

Indonesia & BIMSTEC: Potentially, by geographical definition and proximity, Indonesia be part of BIMSTEC.

South Asia & South East Asia: Isn’t the South Asia and South East Asia are “imaginary” geographic area? Many people think that these 2 regions created/named arbitrarily, just similar to many countries’ boundaries were drawn while “others” partitioned/divided those countries.

BIMSTEC is Real

BIMSTEC is a “Positive Sum Game” and will remain a Positive Sum Game for all members. It does not have problems which many other regional organizations have.

ASEAN will face increasing challenges to maintain cohesion or even to survive meaningfully with the changing geopolitics, technological advances and alternative financial inter-connectivity impacting trade & investment. ASEAN can no longer maximize value for all member states; ASEAN has always been unduly favorable to Singapore tilting equitable regional development via resource draining from other neighboring countries. Why & how?

Agree or disagree, BIMSTEC is Real.

The “BIMSTEC is Real” is a fact based on distinct geography, cultural history, and shared common future for peace-prosperity. BIMSTEC Economic Region will be the “future redevelopment” for better equitable regional peace-prosperity.
